How can you holiday safely in a Coronavirus situation?
We have been thinking hard about how to protect our guests who want, even need, to get away for a few days but are anxious about contracting the virus.
Mother of the Bride
Writing a weddings blog about Mother’s Day is, I admit, a bit of a stretch. Not counting Greek heroes and Irish people, I can’t think of anyone who’d like to marry their mother. Apart from the obvious legal, moral and personal deterrents, there’s also something terrifying about a woman who knows you better than you know yourself. We all like to think of ourselves as unique, as enigmas bound on bones of self…only, your mother remembers when you couldn’t tie your shoelaces. Which was about five years ago in my case.
St David’s Day
If you are one of the lucky people like me, who live in Wales, then on 1st March you will have the enormous pleasure of seeing lots of children dressed up in the Welsh costume. The girls wear a skirt with an apron and usually a shawl over the shoulders and the very iconic black hat with a frill of lace inside – and of course a daffodil on their chest! The boys are usually in waistcoats with a flat cap and a kerchief round their neck and a leek pinned on somewhere.
Leap Year Proposal
All of us in the wedding venue business know that January and February are very busy months with romantic couples proposing more in this time than any other time of the year but this year there is an added bonus – the ladies can do their own proposing!
Weekend Get-Togethers in a Country House
We have lovely groups to say with us throughout the autumn, winter and early spring - either for a three or four generation family gathering or perhaps a big birthday celebration. Lots of bedrooms all with their own bathrooms, billiard table, table tennis, lots of gardens, wood-burners, an in-house chef who cooks to your requirements, no corkage... What’s not to like?
Valentine’s Day Thoughts
The Tall John’s team like to think of themselves as a romantic bunch. But when we were all younger, Valentine’s Day had the same qualities as a McDonald’s drive-through: the anticipation never quite matched the pay-off, and you were always moving too fast to really take the thing in properly.
Be My Valentine?
The florists will be selling out of red roses – the jewelers will be excited about all the rings they are going to sell – because we are fast approaching Valentine’s Day when the most romantic of us pop the big question.
Country House weekend with fishing
It is surprising how many of our guests want to include a fishing expedition in their stay with us whether they are B & B guests or a family group taking our Manor House and also many of our self-catering guests in our cottages are keen fishermen as well.
Weddings Indoors or Outside
There’s been a great debate sweeping the nation. No, I’m not talking about Brexit, or who should have won Strictly; I’m talking about the age-old conundrum: Inside or Out?
Looking at Gardens Near Brecon
We have quite a few visitors who come to stay with us, either in our self-catering cottages or in our Manor House, in order to visit local gardens. In fact we have a group from the Welsh Historic Gardens Trust visiting us in June for this very purpose.
And boy are they spoiled for choice in this area!
