How can you holiday safely in a Coronavirus situation?

We have been thinking hard about how to protect our guests who want, even need, to get away for a few days but are anxious about contracting the virus.

For our two self-catering cottages it is relatively simple and we have put a few procedures in place to make sure that cross-contamination doesn’t happen.  I know that sounds as if our guests are spreading dirt and of course that’s not true, but the science suggests that the virus is airborne and then lands on surfaces and lives on that surface for a few hours.

The length of time the virus survives on a surface depends on the type of surface it is – porous materials like carpets, curtains, bedding etc are much more resistant to the virus than hard surfaces.

So what are we doing to protect you?

  • We have changed our cleaning products to have Lysol or bleach in them to make sure our flat surfaces are not receptive to the germs – this applies to our tiled floors, our wooden floors and of course all surfaces that you might touch with your hands during the course of your holiday.

  • We will come to welcome you but we will not enter the cottage with you so that neither party endangers the other one.

  • We send all our linens to the laundry where they are hygienically washed and will of course continue to do this.

  • As our check-out time is 10am and our check-in time is 15.00hrs, there is no danger of groups of guests meeting each other and passing on any virus. This also gives us a good window to do an extra thorough clean which is so important in these circumstances

What can you do to protect yourselves?

  • Tesco will do a home delivery and we are happy to store the delivery for you. This means you don’t have to expose yourself to germs at the supermarkets or restaurants.

  • There will be soap and plenty of hot water at every basin and we recommend a full handwash whenever you can.

  • If any of your party are feeling unwell, please ask them and anyone who has been in contact with them to stay behind!

We can all manage this outbreak if we are sensible and careful and, above all, considerate of others – especially the elderly or infirm.

For our B & B guests we are deploying all the same cleaning systems but we are also operating a “staggered” breakfast if more than one couple are staying with us.  This means that they do not meet over breakfast and it’s another way to diminish the dangers of infection.
