Marathons, Runs and Walks in the Brecon Beacons

On the weekend of 18th/19th November there will be a weekend of trail running and exploring the Brecon Beacons. This is the 50 th Anniversary of the Brecon Mountain Half Marathon.

30+ checkpoints of different values are spread out around the trails and paths near the event centre. Teams have to find as many as they can in their allotted time using the OMM LITE map. The team that collects the most points over Saturday & Sunday are the winners. The Black Mountains and wider Brecon Beacons National Park are epic for mountain biking and trail running. With the checkpoints spread over the five ridges of the National Park it will be an exciting event in a stunning location.

Some people focus on running hard and collecting all the checkpoints. Others focus on the social side of things making the most of the Saturday evening and stopping for lunch during the day. It’s up to you how far you go, the most important thing is that you enjoy your weekend.

Route: You decide! The paths and trails to take is up to you.

Distance: You choose! Clear the course or get 1 checkpoint and go for lunch.

Terrain: Trails, Paths, Bridleways.

Skills required: Teamwork, route selection….intelligence.

This is just one of the many and varied opportunities to run, walk, hike and bike in the amazing countryside of the Brecon Beacons.

Entries are already open for Brecon Beacons Trail Challenge which takes place on Saturday 5th May 2018.

On June 23rd 2018 the Midnight Mountain Marathon happens. This is no ordinary marathon – set in the Brecon Beacons you go through forests, up mountains, over streams and past waterfalls – but it starts at 5.30 in the evening and you have to finish before midnight!

And of course the toughest of them all is the Fan Dance which is a 24Km route taken by aspiring members of the Special Forces for their selection process and includes the ascent of Pen y Fan which is the highest peak in South Wales. The Fan Dance will take place on 20th January 2018 and is now 50 years old as well!
