St Valentine's Day

Treat your Valentine to a romantic weekend away with B & B at Tall John's House. Spend this Valentine's Day in the luxury of our super king en-suite bedrooms with spectacular views of the National Park and breakfast for two served in our dining room.

Wander through our gardens and relax in the splendour of Tall John's historical surroundings.

Alternatively you can tuck yourselves away in The Coachman's Cottage, complete with its own cosy wood burner, super-king bed, kitchen and dining table set for two. This romantic cottage retreat is perfect for couples escaping the hectic pace of day to day living.

Many of our couples, who come to us to celebrate their big day at our blank canvas venue, tell us that the proposal was made on Valentine’s Day.  So it is really important to choose the most romantic place you can find.

Marriage proposals come in all shapes and sizes

I have a few tips here to make it go well for whoever is doing the asking:-

  1. In all things, bear in mind the taste of your proposed “other half”. What would suit them in terms of time and place? Choose carefully…

  2. The ring: again – it’s not just your taste…. Think of what your partner will really like… and shop around to buy within your budget. There are lots of big expenses coming down the road!

  3. What are you going to say? Whatever it is you decide, remember that this will be a moment that you will both remember and treasure for the rest of your lives. Important to get it right…. Or memorably wrong! I know someone recently who took his bride-to-be up a very tall tree (they were both climbing enthusiasts!) and at the top he had laid out champagne and cushions and fairy lights….. I’m pleased to report that it all went very well

When it comes to choosing how and where to propose – the world is your – literally! People get on a plane, go out on a bike, or go away for a weekend destinate – remember Tall John’s House!

But some people really like the public approach…a city fountain, hotel rooftop, monument to drop down on one knee.

Why not hire a choir, a brass band or a serenade? Or go dancing and get the DJ to dedicate a song so you can propose on the dancefloor? Put an ad in the local paper? Get a pilot to write the proposal in the sky? Propose at the theatre on a local radio station (make sure he or she is listening in though!!!)

And of course social media opens up a whole range of other options if that is what you like.

One of my personal favourites is to have a custom jigsaw puzzle made with the words “Marry me?” hidden in it….

Wherever and however you plan to make the proposal, we wish you well and hope you will then decide to have your wonderful wedding celebrations at our blank canvas venue or one of our Intimate Weddings for those who like a smaller, more budget-friendly option.
