Weddings in and around Brecon and the Brecon Beacons

You are now planning a very special day and hope that both your families and all your friends will join you to help you celebrate.

Choosing one of the most beautiful places in the UK is a great idea. There is wonderful scenery of hills, waterfalls, lakes and castles. The wildlife is magnificent and there are lots of activities to enjoy from hiking, biking, sailing, fishing, golf and horse riding. So you can all make a real week-end of it and enjoy all the many attractions the Brecon area has to offer.

The “city” of Brecon is technically a city because it has a cathedral which is over 600 years old. The population is only 8000+ but Brecon was a Roman base in 43AD and there is still a barracks here today. The Welsh name for Brecon is Brycheiniog which may have come from the name of the original founder.

Tall John’s House and our superb blank canvas wedding barn is only 5 miles from Brecon. We are set in a secluded spot looking across at the unspoiled Black Mountains. The position is entirely private and you are in the heart of this wonderful country and have the place to yourselves!

Your guests can walk or take a boat ride along the Brecon/ Monmouthshire Canal which starts in Brecon at the Theatre Brycheiniog and goes on for 36 miles. Like most old canals, it was built as a business link – in this case between Brecon and Newport.

For the keen hikers there are plenty of possibilities! Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons is the highest mountain in South Wales, used in training exercises by the military and SAS, and the famous “Fan Dance”. The Brecon Beacons has six peaks in so you are spoiled for choice.

I expect you all know the reason why the Brecon Beacons are so called is because people used to light warning beacons on the mountain tops as an alarm system .

If you are lucky and the sky is clear, you will be able to enjoy a wonderful starry sky on your wedding night. The Brecon Beacons National Park was made an International Dark Sky Reserve in February 2013 and the night sky can be magnificent if it isn’t cloudy.
