Brecon Jazz Festival

Brecon Jazz is a wonderful annual event that not only takes over the market town of Brecon but also spills into pubs, cafes and bars in neighbouring villages and hamlets. We often have people staying with us at Tall John’s House specifically to come and enjoy this family-friendly jazz festival.

The festival is always held in early August and this year the dates are 9-12th August. This is the 36th year which is pretty good going!

You can get all sorts of tickets from a weekender, day tickets and a stroller ticket.

The programme includes all sorts of amazing headline acts this year such as Scott Hamilton Quartet, Steve Waterman and Karen Sharp Quartet just to name a few.

It’s brilliant news that Junior Jazz is also returning to the festival. This is a showcase for younger performers in a concert, led and directed by Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama’s Paula Gardiner. Paula, who is head of Jazz Studies at the College, has run this concert event for many years. It is the culmination of an intensive but fun week of teaching, coaching and rehearsing at the RWCMD in Cardiff, and will feature young musicians from the ages of 8 to 18 on stage.

This is a free concert that all can enjoy and show our support for the young players and to give them the widest possible audience. So the free concert will be held in the town centre as part of the afternoon Public Jazz programme, on Friday 9th August.

Just as much fun is drinking in the many beer gardens attached to local pubs and listening to the various jazz groups in relaxed surroundings. There is honestly something for everyone here and all wonderfully laid back.

Super places to stay, to eat and drink and of course the marvellous scenery of the Brecon Beacons as the backdrop to this fun festival.
