Weddings Indoors or Outside

There’s been a great debate sweeping the nation. No, I’m not talking about Brexit, or who should have won Strictly; I’m talking about the age-old conundrum: Inside or Out?

Couples who are celebrating weddings in 2021, especially country weddings, and most especially country weddings in Wales, have got their eyes on the forecast. The problem with Wales is that you just can’t count on the weather. Whilst the idea of outdoor wedding venues is always appealing (and you can imagine it, can’t you? Sunlight dancing in tree tops - rose blooms bobbing - everybody looking nice and red in the face) the whole thing is rather different if it’s pouring with rain. Then you’ve got soggy flowers, muddy shoes, and all your aunts huddled under umbrellas, looking how polar bears do when the ice beneath them begins to melt. Aunts are so rarely aquatic.

This is the ideal thing about barn weddings.

Coupled with their natural rustic charm, there’s something brilliant about sitting in a huge banqueting hall, watching the rain lash against the windows, knowing that whatever the weather does it can’t spoil your day even the slightest bit. With barns that are also blank canvas wedding venues, you have that freedom to structure your day however you like, taking full advantage of whatever chances the weather gives you.

At Tall John’s House, we like to think that you can have your cake and eat it (and we’ll talk about wedding cakes next time). We have a beautiful location for outdoor weddings and civil service ceremonies. We also have three different indoor ceremony locations – each with their own unique style and benefits – and the best part is that you can change the site of your ceremony on the day. So, if the sun is shining, you can tie the knot beneath the trees; if it’s pouring down, you can have your ceremony in one of our beautiful barns, with the rain drumming on the roof.

Come rain or shine, we’re sure that your day will be brilliant. We know we’ll be meeting a lot of grooms and brides in 2021, and hopefully many more in the years to come. We promise them a fantastic wedding day, whatever the weather!
