Choose Your Best Man for your Wedding

At Tall John’s House we like to think of ourselves as a pretty well-kept secret – blank canvas weddings are difficult to find! We’re a blank canvas wedding venue near Brecon, right in the heart of South Wales. But despite being a secluded country house, we’ve come to know and love a fair few brides in the last two years, and I think we’ve also picked up some things to consider when planning a wedding.

If you’re one of the lucky people who are having a wedding in the future, you’ve probably given it a lot of thought. You’ve thought about the flower arrangements. You’ve thought about the wedding dress. You’ve considered barn weddings, outdoor weddings, rustic weddings and maybe even theme weddings! But there’s one thing that couples always overlook: the best man’s speech.

If you’re thinking, “What’s that got to do with me? I’m not writing it!” then you’ve hit the nail on the head: You’re not writing it. And who is?

Well, let’s take a look…

Maybe it’ll be a childhood friend. Someone who you’ve fond memories of, back when they had hair like a duckling and went with you to the zoo. But that was years ago. These days they have hair like a King Edward potato and belong in a zoo, and they’re armed with a series of embarrassing anecdotes that you hoped would never see the light of day. Treat this man with caution.

Maybe, if you’re an athlete, you’ll opt for a training partner. Beware the gym man. Vast lung capacity has given him a talent for talk. He may outlast the champagne, and will certainly outstay his welcome. Also there will be lots of references to how good you are, though not quite as good as him. Beware also the stag night fanatic. He will tell your family things that they are better off not knowing. He may also do the same with the police.

All joking aside, we know that your friends have your back, even if they try their best to humiliate you at the same time (and that’s just part of the fun, really). They’ll be there on the day, doing their part to make your wedding exactly what you always wanted: your day, your way.

If you’re looking for a blank canvas wedding venues in South Wales, look no further. Tall John’s House let’s you craft an experience that is completely yours. Unique weddings are our specialty, and we hope to see you here soon.
