How Important is a Really Good Bathroom?
We have recently refurbished one of our bathrooms at Tall John’s House. It was charming actually – really large and so ideal for bathing children. It had a splendid view from the window across the walled garden so the sun came pouring in in the morning.
BUT as a leftover from another age, there was a shower over the bath but round the bath there was that old friend The Shower Curtain! It reminds most of us of the Hitchcock film “Psycho” which is definitely not the vibe we are looking for to attract guests to come and stay with us!
AND The water pressure could only be called “adequate”, which, in these demanding times, turned out to be not quite good enough.
AND the floor was really sweet if you like pale blue linoleum with bubbles on it.
So we hope by putting in a power shower system and updating the bath with glass sides and a beautiful new wooden floor we will have sorted out the BUT and both the ANDS!
Nonetheless, this fabulous bathroom still retains its good size and its views across the walled garden so its win, win really.
We asked several of our guests what they look for and look at in terms of bathrooms when they go to stay somewhere. We were rather surprised that cleanliness and water pressure came before being actually en suite. There were a few rather good points made – mirrors at the right height and properly lit, a basin generous enough for the wet shavers and very high up the priority list was big enough towels. We all know the misery of wondering if we are using the hand towel by mistake when the bath towel is a bit mean!
Interestingly, more people insisted on a bath tub than insisted on a shower. Many people liked a shower but the keen bathers amongst us are reluctant to make do with a shower. Perhaps that’s something to with where Tall John’s Manor is. Most of the people who come and stay are going walking or shooting, or enjoying yoga or pilates or at least being active so perhaps soaking out the muscles in a glorious hot bath is the way to go!
